Anthropic has unveiled Claude Duet, a new AI agent app that marks its entry into a crowded market of personal and productivity assistants. According to TechCrunch, the product competes with offerings such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot and Fo.
The company is aiming Duet at professionals and small businesses, with the goal of helping them automate and manage tasks. Anthropic sets it apart from personal agents like Instinct: Duet isn't good at running errands or booking tickets, and it doesn't show its browser use live either. Instead, it can put together a daily briefing, build dashboards and suggest actions based on the user's data.
Like other agents, Duet works in the background on its own virtual machine while the user gets on with other things, and checks back in when it needs their approval. Anthropic says the agent proactively offers recommendations while it monitors ongoing tasks.
The launch comes as the market moves from AI assistants to agents that can act on the user's behalf. Many of Anthropic's rivals are betting on enterprise use cases. Meta Muse is a personal assistant, but the company also launched a version for small businesses with connections to other apps. OpenAI's Dots also has a business focus, with integration with professional tools.
Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and can connect to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace. It can also make online purchases on the user's behalf through Stripe's Link digital wallet or Shopify's Shop Pay. Anthropic says sensitive steps, such as payments, require user approval. Duet will not trade securities or move money between accounts.
Anthropic has also added a new classifier that reviews every message to prevent leaks of sensitive information. By default, the agent rejects requests for credit card numbers or official identity documents.
Claude Duet is available as an app on iOS and Android, and on the web via Claude.ai for Pro and Max plan customers, as a research preview. Users must sign up for a waitlist to try it.
