Context matters, because Artificial Analysis is a broad composite index. It aggregates many subtests into one figure, which makes it useful for tracking the field over time and unreliable as a coronation. A composite can move because a model genuinely got better at reasoning and coding, or because a generously configured version was submitted, or because gains landed in already-saturated subtests that no longer discriminate between frontier systems. In our own tracking we weight harder, less saturated signals — real software-engineering tasks, agentic terminal work, unguided expert security tasks — precisely because they are where the differences stop being cosmetic.
