Variety reports that Tilly Norwood, the AI-generated 'actress' who sparked a strong backlash in the film industry in late 2025, will star in her first feature film, titled 'Misaligned'. The film, announced by Particle 6 —the AI-focused studio that created Norwood—, is described as a coming-of-age dramedy infused with 'existential AI chaos'.

The plot unfolds in the so-called 'Tillyverse', a surreal digital world set in the cloud, where Tilly is an AI being with no real body, no childhood and no lived experience of her own, only access to the experiences of others. The story takes a turn when a rebellious, seductive dark-web bot convinces her to abandon her safety guardrails and begin developing her own desires, impulses and ambitions, becoming more human.

The project arrives less than a year after Norwood became the target of a strong industry backlash, following statements by Eline van der Velden, CEO and founder of Particle 6, about Norwood possibly signing with a talent agency. That news drew immediate protests from unions, actors and filmmakers concerned about AI's role in the creative sphere, and Norwood became the recognizable —computer-generated— face of this controversy, a notoriety her creators later exploited through provocative social media posts.

Particle 6 insists that 'Misaligned' is being designed as a hybrid production, combining traditional film and television professionals —including directors, writers and editors— alongside AI specialists. The company says that AI training and mentoring will be built into the production itself, rather than replacing human work.

Van der Velden defended the project, noting that the year's work has shown that 'AI can support quality narrative filmmaking, but only with a substantial amount of human craft, skill, judgment and time', and that this is not a limitation of the technology but precisely the central point of her approach. She added that the filmmakers who thrive in the coming decade will be those who bring decades of storytelling instinct to these new tools.

On the film's tone, van der Velden said it will be 'funny, chaotic and self-aware, very Tilly', but that beneath the surface there will be something deeper about identity, performance and the very human fears surrounding AI, stressing that art will deliberately imitate life in this case.

'Misaligned' is currently in early development, with key collaborators yet to be confirmed. It will be produced alongside the rest of Particle 6's slate of work in production, co-production and AI services for film and television, as well as the activities of its campaigns and brand division.

This announcement rekindles the debate over the place of AI-generated actors in Hollywood, at a time when the industry remains divided between union and creative rejection of these technologies and the interest of certain studios in exploring hybrid production models that combine human talent and artificial intelligence tools.
